All About Photo Awards has been working over the years to provide a portal to photographers who want to excel in their professions. Over the past decade, they have successfully helped build the careers of beginners and many intermediate-level photographers. That’s not all they have done with the help of an esteemed jury, which includes names such as Ed Kashi, Hiroshi Watanabe, Ami Vitale, Aline Smithson, Liu Bolin, John Rankin, Harvey Stein, amongst others.
As part of their 10th edition, the jury comprises some of the renowned photographers, gallery directors, and photo editors to make the year even better. This includes Janet Delaney, photographer; Sarah Gilbert, the Features Photo Editor at The Guardian; Karl Taylor, photographer and filmmaker, and a Hasselblad and Broncolor Ambassador; Tatsuo Suzuki, photographer; Ann Jastrab, the Executive Director of the Center for Photographic Art; and Sandrine Hermand-Grisel, photographer and the founder and editor of All About Photo.
While the contest is called “The Mind’s Eye,” there is no restriction on what one can submit. The works will be purely judged on creativity, the quality of the image, and the artist’s vision. Once the jury selects the winners, the prizes are equally great. The grand grand prize winner will get a cash prize of $2,500, while the runner-up will receive $1000. The winners who come third and fourth will receive $750 and $500, respectively. In addition, the winning images will be displayed on All About Photo’s platforms and printed in AAP Magazine.
However, there is a catch. You have an entry fee of $35 to submit three images. If you want to submit more than three, you must pay $5 for every new submission. While we do wish it was a free-to-enter contest, we are aware of the remuneration going to judges for their time and expertise. Sometimes, a part of the entry fee also goes to the reward. While All About Photo Awards does not explain how the entry fee is utilized, we hope they do for more transparency. The only reason I say this is because international contests are open to people worldwide, which means photographers from developing economies, especially the youth, will find the entry fee a challenge or a shortcoming. Thus limiting some photographers over others.
However, despite this, All About Photo Awards is a great platform if you are looking to gain international exposure. Some of the tie-ups on their website showcase publications such as The Times, My Modern Met, National Geographic Spain, and Lens Scratch, amongst others. This means that your work will be seen by a diverse audience and will not be limited to the United States. In addition, you also get a chance to be featured on the social media of All About Photos, which will further open up new channels for you.
The former winners include Marco Gualazzini, winner of the World Press Photo award, Amnesty International Media Awards finalist Tariq Zaidi, and Tom Price, winner of the All About Photo Awards 2021. Contests such as this are a great stepping stone for improving your skills as a photographer, pushing you to think outside the box about a story and challenging existing perspectives. So, don’t waste another minute—participate today!
All About Photos Award will close its entries on February 4. Winners will be contacted by April 29. For more information, visit their website.
