Adobe has rolled out a series of updates to its video editing tools Premiere Pro, After Effects, and Frame.io, meant to address common filmmaking challenges. These enhancements focus on improving efficiency, and as probably expected – they include AI-powered features and workflow optimizations.
Premiere Pro: Search smarter and translate captions
Premiere Pro introduces the Media Intelligence & Search Panel, an AI-powered tool designed to help you find specific clips quickly. Currently available in beta, it automatically analyzes footage for elements like objects, locations, camera angles, and metadata. You can search with natural language, such as “sunset shot with a city skyline,” and the tool will display relevant clips.

The update also includes Caption Translation, which automates multilingual caption creation in 17 languages. This feature aims to simplify captioning, making it more accessible to creators working with international audiences.

After Effects: Faster previews and HDR improvements
In After Effects, a new caching system enables smoother playback of complex compositions by utilizing both RAM and high-speed storage. This lets you preview your projects with fewer interruptions, even on older hardware.
This beta feature also adds HDR support, enabling accurate monitoring and exporting of high-dynamic-range content. Motion designers can work with HDR projects using professional I/O hardware or directly on laptops, ensuring compatibility with modern display standards.
Frame.io: New Camera to Cloud integration
The update extends Camera to Cloud (C2C) functionality in Frame.io to select Canon cameras, including the EOS C80 and C400 models. This integration allows you to upload proxy files directly to the cloud during production, making them accessible to postproduction teams within minutes. The feature aims to streamline workflows and reduce the risk of losing footage on set.
Alignment with Sundance and support for filmmakers
As the updates come ahead of the 2025 Sundance Film Festival, Adobe highlighted these updates during the festival, where 85% of entries used Adobe tools like Premiere Pro and After Effects. Additionally, Adobe announced a $5 million increase in funding for its Film & TV Fund, which supports underrepresented filmmakers.
Availability
The new features are available for Creative Cloud subscribers. Keep in mind, though, that intelligent search, caption translation, faster previews and HDR improvements are only available in beta for now.
