Although we have stepped into 2025, we are quite yet done with the previous year. In our previous coverage, you may have seen headlines about the most popular cameras for pros, anticipated cameras we should have seen in 2024, and old devices that are perfect even in 2024. However, today, we bring you a new report revealing the top 10 mirrorless interchangeable lens cameras sold in 2024. If you are a photography enthusiast, the results may shock you somewhat. So, hold on to your seats; here’s a look at what the statistics offer.
According to BCN Ranking, Sony claimed the first spot on the list. However, it’s not one of their high-end mirrorless cameras that has done so, but rather their video series, Vlogcam ZV-E10. What is, however, interesting is that this is the second time the series has been given the title. Since September 2021, BCN reports, the camera has been selling well. In 2022, they came in second as the top-selling mirrorless interchangeable lens camera. However, in 2023, and for the first time, they took the title home, with 2024 being their second consecutive year. It must be remembered that the results on the list reflect actual sales data from electronics retailers and online stores in the country. Here is a look at the entire ranking:
No | Manufacturer | Series | BCN Ranking | Share (%) |
1 | Sony | VLOGCAM ZV-E10 | 16.0 | 16.0 |
2 | Canon | EOS R50 | 11.6 | 11.6 |
3 | Canon | EOS R10 | 6.7 | 6.7 |
4 | Sony | a6400 | 5.8 | 5.8 |
5 | Sony | a7C II | 4.9 | 4.9 |
6 | Nikon | Z 30 | 4.3 | 4.3 |
7 | CM Digital Solutions | OLYMPUS PEN E-P7 | 3.9 | 3.9 |
8 | Nikon | Z fc | 3.4 | 3.4 |
9 | Sony | a7C II | 3.2 | 3.2 |
10 | Panasonic | LUMIX G1000 | 3.1 | 3.1 |
According to the report, one reason it topped the list is its affordability and video-friendly features. As of 2024, the average unit price was under 100,000 yen (about 641 USD), making it a popular choice for casual users and content creators. At the same time, Sony is the only company with three more places on the list of the 10. These successes have helped Sony secure a dominant position, with a 35.8% share of the market, up 1.8 percentage points from the previous year.
Canon took two spots in the top 10, which proves that it also has a strong presence in the mirrorless game. The R50 and the R10 are APS-C offerings, but they continue to be loved by the masses due to their affordability and quality. The combined market share of the “EOS R” series now stands at 18.3%, making up over 70% of Canon’s total sales.
Nikon, on the other hand, came in third, with a market share of 14.5%. While we did like the Z 30, we felt the Z FC was a disappointment. There appears to be an understanding that Z50 II is also supposed to help Nikon drive additional sales in 2025. The last two spots are taken by Panasonic and Olympus, leaving no space for Fujifilm. This is kind of odd, considering Fujifilm had one of the best years, thanks to X100VI.
Similarly, when Yodobashi Camera released its top 20 best-selling camera list, Sony took the first and second spots with the a7C II and its kid, with the Canon R50 coming in third and the R6 Mk II taking the fourth place. Fujifilm X-T5, however, took the 18th spot, and Olympus E-P7 EZ was the last one.
Fujifilm’s absence from the list could be due to its supply shortage, issues focusing on some devices, or even marketing challenges. Sony’s cameras are pretty great, with the Vlog camera being the best choice for those who shoot hybrids. Canon seems to have made a major leap in the APS-C market, giving many enthusiasts a chance to get affordable mirrorless for their photography needs. The same goes for Nikon, but again, they still have to cater to the mid-segment with the same zest as Canon. Perhaps these tables may turn this year if the companies focus on affordability, functionality, and brand loyalty for their users.
