Fujifilm has recently mentioned that a huge contributor to its success rate is the Chinese market and its young population. This particularly pertains to the X100VI, which has had an all-time high demand for at least two more years. While the company is basking in the glory of this hit product, they haven’t shown signs of slowing down. They are continuously working on new devices, and now, leaked of the highly anticipated Fujifilm GFX100RF has surfaced online. Here is a quick glimpse at the device and how this could be an X100VI killer.
Considered to be “the world’s first fixed lens digital medium format” camera, rumors suggest that the device will be announced soon, on March 20. Per the new leaked images shared by DCLife and Sony Alpha Rumor’s Andrea Pizzini showcases the camera with the following:
- A dedicated aspect ratio dial
- No D-pad
- Fujifilm’s shutter/ISO dial
- A rear command dial, which is larger
- S/C/M switch, joystick, mark button, and unmark button
This dial may seem new and first of its kind; it is not. Panasonic had a similar switch with the LX100, and Leica also had a feature like this with the Leica D-Lux 7. The feature is supposed to allow users to switch between aspect ratios directly from the camera without diving deep into the menu.
On the other hand, the crop lever, which is placed at the front of the camera, is also supposed to help users to crop the images instantly. This is not seen in the images shared above, but it is positioned in such a way that on is able to easily access it, giving photographers immense ease in their workflow. It is also doing to help one to reduce post-processing time.
However, the only concern some people flagged on the internet was the lack of a hybrid viewfinder. Currently, the camera is supposed to have an electronic viewfinder (EVF), which is something that optical viewfinder loyalists will not like. However, the reason for choosing EVF was to keep the cost and the size smaller.

In addition, the Fujifilm GFX100RF is supposed to be thinner than the Leica M10-R, which many consider its competitor. This is despite the Fujifilm variant having a 35mm f4 lens attached to it. The camera is supposed to be available in black and silver.
The anticipated price for the Fujifilm GFX100RF is around $5000, making it more affordable than Leica, which is usually around $6000. It could, thus, lead the GFX100RF to have a larger reach and audience. Furthermore, the 102MP sensor is massive, unlike Leica cameras, which top out at 60MP. So, you get a bigger sensor at a lower price, which could entice many.
But there are some trade-offs, such as the lack of in-body image stabilization (IBIS), and a slow lens, which could hamper low-light photography or lack of bokeh when creating portraits. One can only know for sure how much of these things will be a challenge once we get a chance to review the device.
As the release date inches closer, we may see more reveals about the camera, which will provide a clearer picture. This may also help us figure out whether this is worth the hype or not. Until then, stay tuned for more!
