Canon cameras have won millions of hearts over the years. The popular 5D series, the Powershot G, or the Rebel series each have a massive following. Despite Canon‘s turn to mirrorless, the company has continued to provide something exceptional for beginners and professionals alike. However, one thing that we have noticed is that while full-frame cameras are popular, the ones catering to beginners have a much larger following. And with time, these devices outperform in many sales charts. How so? Let’s have a look.
Canon PowerShot V1, a camera made for content creators, has been quite popular in the market, thanks to its 22MP 1.4-inch sensor and a 3-stop ND filter built into it. Like the Powershot, other companies such as Fujifilm and Ricoh have also launched their versions of a compact camera. In fact, the V1 is competing with the likes of X100VI and Sony’s ZV-E10, both of which were launched a while back. In an exclusive interview with The Phoblographer, Drew MacCallum, Senior Manager, Product Planning, Canon U.S.A., expanded on this market and Canon’s role. He said:
The compact market is seeing some revitalization, and as a result, the PowerShot V1 camera is a great addition to the Canon compact camera line.
The compact camera industry is not the only one that has seen some positive response. APS-C cameras, on the whole, are quite popular around the world. One of the reasons could be the rising prices of full-frame cameras, inflation, and tariffs. In Japan, for instance, MAP Camera and BCN+R have named Canon and other APS-C products as “best-selling.” With this trend in being more mainstream now, it is safe to say that Canon could be prepping the lower-end camera market for sale, especially since the holiday season is right around the corner. As MacCallum said:
Hopefully soon, we will see better stock of our highly successful PowerShot G7X Mark III.
The latest iteration of G7X was introduced in 2019, and despite being over five years old, many Canon fans are curious about the camera. One reason is that it is compact and better than a phone. There are also offerings such as the new R50, which is just as popular and is also a regular on Amazon’s best-selling list. The R10 is also not so far, nor is the R100, both of which are popular amongst the lower-end market. As MacCallum adds: ” The EOS R50 and EOS R50 V camera (released with the PowerShot V1 camera) are important products for Canon and the content creator market.”

If you are someone who is looking to purchase Canon APS-C cameras, then you should wait for the holidays. That’s because we could see rebates and savings from the company this season. Another reason we believe this is that Canon has a rich history of rebadging around this season every year. For instance, models such as the Canon EOS Rebel T5, the Canon EOS M50 II, the Canon EOS R with Flashpoint Zoom Li-On X TTL Speedlight, and the EOS R10 have each gone on sale around the end of the year. The company is also known to bundle cameras together with lenses, printers, flashes, and bags, which helps to drive sales. For instance, the EOS R with the flash. The strategy is great, and if you are not jumping to another system, you can make a lot out of it.
With tariffs in place, Canon could also have another holiday season sale for the lower-end market, which is something they could be prepping for. However, which cameras go on sale and what kind of deals they have remains to be seen.
