Fujifilm has about 24 prime lenses in its X-mount series, with focal lengths ranging from 8mm to a whooping 500mm. The company has been dedicated to launching newer lenses with better weather sealing and a compact structure that would further help photographers get perfect images with their X series setup. However, while reports of a new pancake lens are fresh, there are a few more focal lengths that photographers are keen on seeing launch soon. Here is a look at what they are.
According to Fujifilm Rumors, Fujifilm took a survey and listed 10 X-mount lenses for users in 2024. This data was supposed to help Fujifilm launch newer lenses, which would be beneficial for the customers’ needs. This then led to the launch of Fujifilm XF 500mm f5.6 R LM OIS WR, which was a version of the GF500mm, but for the X-mount. Another lens that photography truly wanted was XF 23mm, which is reported to launch soon. Now that these two lenses are already in their final stages, we take a look at the 8 lenses, which may or may not launch soon.
- XF 120mm f2: Set to weigh 900-1000g, with a diameter of 90-110mm and size of 140-160mm.
- Super wide angle fast lens for astrophotographers: Size reported to be 80-100mm, with a diameter of 70-80mm and weight of 400-600g.
- XF 16-200mm: This superzoom lens is set to weight 600-800g, with a diameter of 70-80mm and a size of 120-140mm.
- Telephoto zoom lens at f4: The size is reported to be 120-130mm, with a diameter of 70-80mm and weight of 500-700g.
- Compact wide zoom lens at f2.8: It is set to weigh 200-300g, with a size not longer than 90mm and a diameter of about 75mm.
- Fisheye lens: 200-300g of weight, a length of 50-60mm, and a diameter of no longer than 70mm.
- Affordable thin standard zoom lens for XC lineup: Will not weigh more than 130g and measure 40mm with 70mm diameter.
- Affordable wide zoom lens for XC lineup: Size is said to be 50mm, with weight about 170g, and diameter at 70mm.
In addition, there are some photographers who want a newer version of the XF 18mm f2, which was originally launched in 2013. While there is an 18mm f1.4 WR version, it is not as compact as f2. So, perhaps, after the XF 23mm, the company should also focus on the 18mm variant.
Furthermore, Fujifilm recently launched the X-M5 and is planning to restock the Fujifilm X100VI soon. As a result, the need for pancake lenses is likely to drive the company to focus on more compact offerings for content creators. There are also some new third-party Fujifilm lenses on their way, which will further help photographers to choose from a wider pool.
It remains to be seen what the company will launch in the next few months. However, we are not too kicked about the X mount updates, especially when photographers are a second thought the company when they work on this series. As we have suggested, the GFX is the better option for serious photographers.
