Panasonic has added one more masterpiece to its Lumix series. The Panasonic Lumix S1 IIE is not much of a change from what we’ve seen before, but a smart adjustment. Panasonic refers to it as the “Essential” version of the S1 II, and “E” literally means “Essential”. It retains many great features from the larger model but leaves out more flashy (and expensive) options, making it easier to use.
If you are a hybrid shooter, this camera is worth checking out.
24MP Full-Frame Power, Without the Premium Tag
Panasonic chose not to give this model the newest sensor technology. Instead, it features a 24.2MP full-frame BSI CMOS sensor, which is still quite capable for many of you. This choice makes sense, especially if you don’t need extremely high megapixel counts but want clear images, good dynamic range, and exemplary low-light performance.
Additionally, it comes with Panasonic’s L2 image processor, which provides quicker performance, improved color accuracy, and features like Dynamic Range Boost. You can even take 96MP photos without needing a tripod. It seems kinda impressive to me.
To maintain workflows, the Panasonic Lumix S1 IIE also supports HEIF 10-bit image recording. This means you get richer colors and smaller file sizes. This saves space on your storage drive.
6K Open Gate Video
You can record 6K video at 30 frames per second using the entire sensor (3:2). Reframing shots later or experimenting with anamorphic styles becomes easier with this. There’s also an option for 5.1K at 60 frames per second and 4K at 120 frames per second for smooth slow-motion footage.
Plus, there’s built-in Frame.io C2C integration. I work primarily from home, and I think this feature is better than anything. Working with clients becomes simple; you can share your footage instantly.
Autofocus: Fast, Smart, and Loaded with AI
Panasonic’s new Phase Hybrid AF system now includes AI for better subject detection. The camera can identify eyes, faces, animals, and vehicles. It does a good job of staying focused on your subject, even if it moves quickly or is partially hidden.
It features 779 autofocus points and allows you to shoot at 30 fps without any blackout in SH mode. You can also adjust the manual focus settings to linear or non-linear. This makes it an excellent option for capturing sports, events, or anything that moves fast.
Built Like a Tank, Works Like a Charm
The Panasonic Lumix S1 IIE looks precisely like the S1 II. It has a sturdy magnesium alloy body, is weather-sealed, and includes all the necessary ports and slots for a professional camera. This features dual card slots (CFexpress Type B and SD UHS-II), USB-C for charging and tethering, and the ability to record directly to an SSD.
The 3.2-inch LCD screen is bright, responsive to touch, and can tilt in any direction you need. The OLED electronic viewfinder gives you a clear eye-level view in the field.
If you like to work on the go, the S1 IIE is compatible with both LUMIX Lab and LUMIX Flow, allowing you to transfer, edit, and share your photos easily. It also works well with Capture One for tethered studio shooting.

Panasonic Lumix S1 II will be available in June for $2,497.99.
I told you this camera is designed for “hybrid creators.” Many people these days are multitaskers. Some film weddings one weekend and create YouTube videos the next. In either case, it has premium features worth its price.
It’s not a low-cost gear option. But you won’t be paying for unnecessary features. I think the S1 IIE is an excellent choice from Panasonic. It provides professional-grade tools without pushing you into the high-end market.
