Tamron has been known for creating exceptional zoom lenses for mirrorless cameras. These lenses are not only cost-effective but also offer exceptional performance as third-party lenses. For instance, the 28-300mm f4-7.1 Di III VC VXD, the 35-150mm f2-2.8 Di III VXD, and the 150-500mm f5-6.7 Di III have all performed well given the price point. It now appears Tamron is working on three more telephoto lenses, which will certainly be great for Tamron‘s portfolio.
According to Asobinet, the company published patent P2025077582 on May 19. The patent showcases designs of three different focal lengths: the 100-400mm, the 28-400mm, and the 50-500mm. Per the patent, the lenses are designed to provide “high resolution performance while maintaining a small size and lightweight.”

Tamron has launched multiple lenses. The 100-400mm does not make sense since the company already has a 50-400mm F/4.5-6.3 Di III VC VXD, which was launched in 2022. The lens already covers the focal range and gives photographers enough range. However, what makes the new 100-400mm different is that the device will feature an internal zoom. This means when you zoom, the lens barrel will not extend out, making it compact.
It’s also not the first time that Tamron has done things like this. They have a 17-28mm f2.8 and a 20-40mm f2.8 as well.
The 28-400mm seems to be a lens that is set to compete against Nikon’s Z 28-400mm f4-8 VR. However, one of the biggest differences would be the price point. The Nikon version is now $1,296, so a Tamron version will certainly be under $1000. If there are Canon and Sony versions available, it will make things better as well.
The oddest of them all is the 50-500mm. Tamron already has a 50-400mm f4.5-6.3 Di III VC VXD, and Sigma has its 60-600mm f4.5-6.3 DG DN OS Sports. The 50-500mm will come close between the two, offering more choice to photographers in various mounts. This could be due to the fact that zoom lenses are now more in demand than primes, with many companies offering more options with a large focal range.
However, it must be remembered that the patents may not result in a final product. However, if it does prove to be true, then we will see more information soon on the web. Either way, let’s see what Tamron has planned.
