I love good wildlife photography, but if it’s also funny – I love it even more! The Nikon Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards are back with another delightful batch of laugh-out-loud animal antics. The contest has unveiled some of the best submissions so far. From a tiny dragon waving hello to a pair of mudskippers mid-duet, and a fashion-forward rhino. With only one month left before the competition closes for entries, these will make you giggle and inspire you to take and submit your own shots.
Behind the Nikon Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards
Now in its tenth year, this contest celebrates the hilarity and unpredictability of wildlife while shining a light on conservation. Since its founding in 2015 by photographers Paul Joynson-Hicks MBE and Tom Sullam, Comedy Wildlife has aimed to merge humor and heart. It raises awareness for habitat protection through photography that makes you giggle.
And it’s clearly working. This year alone, the contest has received over a thousand entries from across the globe – so far. Each year, the contest partners with a conservation charity, and for 2025, they’re once again teaming up with the Whitley Fund for Nature. Over three decades, WFN has supported conservation leaders across the Global South, funneling £23 million into grassroots efforts.
Nikon is this year’s sponsor of our beloved wildlife photography contest. “It’s such an honour to be working with the Comedy Wildlife team again this year,” says Stefan Maier, Nikon Europe Senior General Manager Marketing. “We’ve loved seeing all the hilarious entries so far and look forward to even more!”
The Prizes
The grand prize winner will receive a safari to Kenya’s Maasai Mara with Alex Walker’s Serian, a handcrafted trophy from Tanzania’s Wonder Workshop, and serious bragging rights. Nikon sweetens the deal with top-tier gear for junior and young photographers. And last but not least, all category winners walk away with a sleek camera bag from ThinkTANK.
The competition is open to all, totally free to enter, and has categories for mammals, birds, reptiles and insects, aquatic life, video clips, and even an internet portfolio. There are dedicated slots for young and junior photographers too—so the whole family can join the fun.
As for the winners, they will be announced in December at a free exhibition at London’s Gallery@Oxo from the 10th to 14th. It’s a chance to see the finalists’ works in person and celebrate the joy of photography that brings awareness through amusement.
Enjoy Funny Wildlife Photography and Submit Your Photos!
If you want to join the party, you have until June 30, 2025, to submit your photos. Whether you’ve captured a fox mid-faceplant or a parrot caught in a sneeze, this could be your moment to shine.
