$300 Honor 400 Lite Launches with Android’s First AI Camera Button and a 108MP Sensor

I normally find budget smartphones less impressive. But, recently, I saw hype about the Honor 400 Lite. Turns out it features a remarkable 108-megapixel main camera, and it also adds a brand-new feature for Android: an AI Camera Button. It seems first-of-its-kind and is quite significant. Many of you might be mobile photographers, and I guess it’s worth considering, especially since this phone is just over $300.

AI Camera Button on Android? That’s New

What’s the deal with this AI Camera Button? Well, reports say that it feels more than just a regular camera launcher. This button actually appears very similar to a smart assistant that activates smart features based on what you’re focused on. You press it, and the phone’s AI gets to work, figuring out what you’re capturing. It might be a portrait, a meal, a landscape, or even your cat snoozing on your laptop. It then makes all the necessary adjustments for you.

At least it’s making the photo capturing process easy instead of going into complex settings. Sometimes I get tired with adjusting modes as it really demands time and keen focus. For that, Honor 400 Lite might be a good solution. Along with all its features, it also seems to give access to Google Lens, Gemini, AI Motion Sensing Capture, AI Eraser and Outpainting. So, I don’t think we have encountered anything quite like it before.

108 Megapixels in a Budget Phone?

Yes! The rear camera has an impressive 108MP. This might place Honor 400 Lite among the top-tier flagships soon in terms of resolution. Of course, don’t expect it to match the depth or dynamic range of a DSLR just yet. You might still capture stunningly large images that are perfect for cropping or printing. This sensor appears to work better in bright setup, but it also features an f/1.75 aperture and 9-in-1 pixel binning to enhance low-light performance.

Moreover, it also seems to creates that nice background blur in your portrait shots that most of us find appealing. This is because of it’s another 5MP sensor. Though, this isn’t revolutionary but seems that it certainly does its job well.

Honor 400 Lite seems to have a 6.7-inch AMOLED display that can reach up to 3500 nits of brightness. In other words, it’s large, vibrant, and very smooth.

What About the Selfie Camera?

It’s front camera is what I find more interesting. It has a 16MP camera, which is quite wild for a smartphone in this category. It probably uses some AI enhancements for smoothing and sharpening, meaning your selfies might have a “tuned” look. That’s become quite common nowadays. And if you’re a passionate vlogger, you’ll definitely appreciate the quality of this front camera for some quick, on-the-go videos.

Pricing and Availaibility

The Honor 400 Lite will start shipping on April 29, 2025. However, according to Honor’s website, it doesn’t seem available for US users. For the rest of us, the price is £249.99, which is just over $330 USD. Pretty good deal for a phone like this. I think the AI Camera Button in Honor 400 Lite could attract Android users, especially if it turns out to be genuinely useful rather than just a novelty. I personally find it as an exciting feature that might simplify capturing photos for us.
