Cameras, especially those outside the studios, need to be robust. From weathering difficult storms to withstanding change in extreme temperatures, mirrorless cameras have come a long way. In more recent times, we have come across devices that are not only robust but also perform well, as well as are easy on the pocket. If you are someone who is looking to buy mirrorless cameras for your next adventure, here is a look at a handful of them that can be excellent partners for your varying needs.
Nikon Z6 II
A full frame camera, the Nikon Z6 II features a 24.5MP sensor, image stabilization up to 5-axis, a 3.2-inch 2.1M-dot LCD, and a 0.5-inch 3.69M dot viewfinder. The camera has a DSLR like design, so photographers will find it easy to translation as well to mirrorless. It feels sturdy in the hands, thanks to magnesium alloy built, and as we stated, after giving the camera a splash of water, we “didn’t experience any ill effects.”
Canon EOS R5

Considered one of the best Canon mirrorless cameras, the R5 has a 45MP full-frame CMOS sensor, up to 8-stop image stabilization, and a built-in 0.5-inch 5.76 M-dot OLED EVF. The camera provides great image quality, but also does not heat up and can withstand different weather conditions. “The camera can take so much abuse and keep snapping images,” we wrote in our review. “Not only is the camera reliable, but it’s also very capable. I’d gladly make it my main camera.”
Panasonic S5

Panasonic’s weather-resistant mirrorless camera, the S5, is a robust offering in the full-frame sensor category. It features a 24MP sensor, 5-axis image stabilization, a 2.36M dot 0.74x magnification OLED LVF, and it feels truly great in hand. It is also small, and the dials are placed well. As we noted in our test, the camera can withstand mild drizzle. “Panasonic’s build quality has always impressed me. And even though this doesn’t feel as rugged as the S1 and S1r, it’s still more than able to endure most abuse,” we added.
Fujifilm XT4

Fujifilm has some of the best mirrorless cameras on the market for color science. But the XT4 proves that Fujifilm cameras are just as good for long-term use. The device has 26MP sensors, weather sealing, a 3-inch 1.62M touchscreen LCD monitor, and a 0.5-inch 3.69M OLED viewfinder. As we said in our review: “Fujifilm’s created yet another compact and well-built workhorse with the XT4. Like most of the higher-end offerings from Fujifilm’s X-mount camera lineup, the X-T4 is weather sealed. We wouldn’t go dunking the camera into the ocean, but you can keep shooting confidently even if you happen to get caught in a rainstorm.”
Olympus OMD EM1 III

One of the mirrorless cameras with a Four Thirds sensor, the Olympus OMD EM1 III features a 20MP sensor, a 121-point phase-detection system, and 5-axis image stabilization on the sensor. It also features a magnesium alloy body, weather sealing to IPX1, a 2.34 M-dot EVF, and a 3-inch 1037-dot LCD screen. The camera can withstand dirt, rain, moisture, and in some cases, even animals. As we said in our review, “Basically, you shouldn’t be afraid to use the Olympus OMD EM1 III in inclement situations unless you’re using one of the company’s cheaper lenses without protection.”
