7Artisans has just released a 24mm f/1.8 AF lens for Sony E-mount cameras. It’s turning heads in the affordable prime lens market. This could be worth buying if you like wide-angle photography or need a quick everyday lens without spending too much. It isn’t a G Master lens, but it seems like a good option for its price.
A 24mm f/1.8 Lens with Autofocus
Finding a third-party lens with autofocus for under $400 is unusual. However, the 7Artisans 24mm f/1.8 autofocus lens includes a quiet STM stepper motor. It allows for smooth and quick focusing without the distracting noise that your microphone can pick up during video recording. I love this update. While manual focus is practical, sometimes it’s nice to let the camera handle the focus automatically.
Bokeh and Background Blur
The large f/1.8 aperture serves more than looks. It allows plenty of light to enter, making it easier to take photos in low-light conditions without increasing the ISO too much and creating noise. Moreover, it features an 11-blade diaphragm, which helps make the blurred parts of your images look nice and smooth. I have always tried to make the soft background in my photos. This lens even delivers that effect perfectly.
Optical Construction Looks Legit
7Artisans’ 24mm f/1.8 autofocus lens features three extra-low dispersion (ELD) elements, two high-refractive (HR) elements, and two aspherical elements, all in a small design. This fascinating blend minimizes chromatic aberration and fringing, helping you capture sharper and clearer images. Personally, I haven’t had the chance to examine the corners closely yet, but it seems that this lens is set to impress beyond its size.
Designed for Creators
My talented videographer friends, you’ll love the smooth aperture ring that doesn’t make any clicking sounds. This means you can tweak settings while filming without annoying clicks messing with your audio or flow. Moreover, there’s a handy customizable function button that you can set to your favorite feature for quick access. Updating the firmware has also become super easy. Just connect the lens to your computer using a USB-C cable. No complicated adapters needed.

Pricing and Availability
7Artisans 24mm f/1.8 AF Lens will soon be available for $329.90. For now, it is exclusively for Sony E-mount cameras. I haven’t heard anything about a version for Canon RF, Nikon Z, or L-mount users yet.
So far, it seems like a great option – it’s wide, quick, has autofocus, and a solid optical design. I haven’t tried it out personally yet, but if you need an affordable lens for daily shots, street photography, or some cinematic B-roll, I think this one could be a strong choice. Although it won’t match the quality of Zeiss lenses.
If 7Artisans continues like this, third-party lenses might become much more appealing.
