I always wanted a camera that just kind of kept pace with the action without having an entire production team behind it. Atomos wants to make it come true with their new A-Eye PTZ series camera lineup. It seems a range of smart, AI-enhanced cameras that could quite possibly revolutionize how classrooms, stages, boardrooms, and live streams appear and feel.
Announced at NAB Show 2025 in Las Vegas, the A-Eye range is built if you need professional-looking video without hiring a camera operator. I’m talking about educators, solo creators, worship leaders, event teams, and even coaches.
What sets it apart? These aren’t merely moving cameras. Atomos promises these will follow you in real time with silky-smooth, cinematic motion and automatically frame the shot. Whether you’re walking across a classroom or performing on stage, A-Eye appears to keep pace. And surprisingly, no joystick is needed!
A-Eye PTZ Series: One Setup, Endless Uses, No Operator Needed
It’s important to know what you’re actually working with A-Eye PTZ series. Atomos introduced three cameras and one controller in the A-Eye lineup:
- A-Eye 4K-20X: This is the big one, a 4K beast with a 1/1.8” sensor and 20x zoom, meant for large-scale productions or big venue stages.
- A-Eye 4K-12X: A smaller 4K version with a 12x zoom. Looks great for classrooms, conference calls, or creators filming content solo.
- A-Eye HD-20X: Affordable but intelligent. HD resolution, 20x zoom, and seems ideal for education or community applications.
- A-Eye Control: A specific controller that enables you to change presets, control multiple cameras, and execute remote productions over IP.
All the cameras have some handy features in common: NDI|HX3 support, multi-format video compression (H.265, H.264, MJPEG), and outputs such as HDMI, 3G-SDI, USB, and IP streaming (RTSP, RTMP, ONVIF). Plus, support for PoE+ — meaning you can push power, control, and video down one single cable. If you’ve ever struggled with a clutched AV rack, you know that’s a total game-changer.
Another thing you should know is that these cameras are plug-and-play with most existing PTZ systems. It means you can install one alongside your existing workflow without having to tear everything out and start again.
Atomos is marketing this as a “virtual camera operator,” and I don’t think it would disappoint. Whether you’re giving a lecture, broadcasting a worship service, or streaming a sports drill, the camera moves with you. It reframes shots in real-time and gives you consistent video, all without anyone behind the camera.
Pricing and Availability
Pricing starts at $1,399 for the HD model and goes up to $2,299 for the flagship 4K version. The Control Unit runs $999. Pre-orders are open now, and shipping begins in June 2025.
So if you’ve ever struggled with clunky camera setups or wished for a smarter way to run multi-cam production solo like me, A-Eye might be worth a look. Sometimes, the best camera operator… is no operator at all.
