Canon performed exceptionally well in quarter one of 2025, with the company showcasing a positive fiscal year. It now appears that the second quarter has not been too different either, with the overall fiscal report depicting a a strong result. This is despite the falling yen, something that has affected many companies around the world. But what is even more interesting to see how a few models from the companies are faring well over others. Let’s have a look.
According to the report, the imaging unit’s net sales rose by 6.5% year-over-year to 260.7 yen billion in Q2 and by 12.5% for the first half of the year to 472.8 yen billion. At the same time, the operating profit also surged by 27.2% to 70.3 yen billion, with a strong margin of 14.9%.
The company notes in its report that this performance is a result of its new camera, which includes three modes: EOS R5 Mark II, EOS R50 V, and PowerShot V1. The cameras have been quite popular with content creators, video creators, and photography enthusiasts. At the same time, Canon‘s network camera business is also reporting a 20% year-on-year growth, which proves the demand for monitoring cameras as well. The company has also stated that imaging sales volume contributed significantly to the 17.6% year-on-year increase in operating profit.
At the same time, Canon is looking at imaging sales to reach new heights, with 1.01 yen trillion, which will mark a 7.9% increase from last year. The operating profit is expected to rise 4.6% to 158.3 yen billion. They are also looking to increase camera sales by 5.4% yearly, and this will be done by increasing the production of popular models.
This showcases that mirrorless cameras, especially interchangeable lens cameras, will continue to rise in popularity. At the same time, models like PowerShot will also be rapidly increasing in number, thanks to platforms such as YouTube and Instagram. In addition, Canon’s own technological advancements, such as improved autofocus due to an AI chip or better firmware updates, are also helping these models to stand out over others. Overall, both professionals and entry-level users seem to be finding a camera that suits their needs. With more hybrid shooters becoming prominent in the coming years, it appears Canon knows what it is doing with its strategy.

However, we still have two more quarters to go, and we have yet to see what kind of cameras the company launches by the end of the year. Perhaps R6 Mk III can further help Canon reach dizzying heights. If so, then it proves the company can read the users’ market better than we thought.
