Have you ever tried doing outdoor photography? Particularly that magical golden hour in which you can capture plenty of stunning outdoor shots. If you ever did that, you might have needed flashes that offer power, portability, and reliability. Recently, the Neewer Q6 has launched, offering precisely these features.
Maybe this new strobe could be a good addition in your gear collection. With a strong 600Ws, it has a lot of features that I will discuss one by one.
600Ws Flash Power That Doesn’t Mess Around
Outdoor shooting can be tough for powerless strobes. Sometimes you are up against bright sunlight and sometimes even unpredictable winds. Despite that, the Q6 can confront challenging daylight conditions due to its 600Ws of power. You can do it without using any generator or a bunch of C-stands.
Neewer says, the Q6 features a quartz tube that can handle about 300,000 flashes. Possibly good for covering events, this is can be a perk. So, no more fretting through wedding season. Just click and shoot, it’s pure fun.
Personally, slow recycling times sometime frustrate me a lot. While I was going through Neewer Q6’s specs, I got to know it has 28.8V/3000mAh battery. On a single charge, it delivers up to 400 full-power flashes with recycling times as quick as 0.01 to 0.9 seconds.
Speaking of the burst mode, the Q6 also features a strobe setting that can flash up to 100 times at 100Hz. Moreover, it offers flash durations around 1/20400s and high-speed sync capabilities up to 1/8000s. I think this can capture dynamic moments smoothly, either it’s splashes or action shots.
Control It From Your Phone
I have to be honest, I thought flashes cannot be controlled from phone. But, then here is Neewer Q6. Neewer’s mobile app allows you adjust flash modes and manage group settings. It can even update firmware right from your phone. For a person like me who always prefers shortcuts, this seems like simplifying the process. At least it’s better than juggling with lights and buttons and dials.
User interface is upgraded as well. Dual TFT color screens have took place that are not only vibrant but also easy to read. I’d call it a “flashy flash”.
Consistent Color
One thing that disappoints us sometimes is the clash between color consistency and outdoor flashes. Especially while adjusting the power levels. Q6 features unwavering 5700K color temperature, varying by only ±100K end to end. While this won’t make much difference, your time spent in Lightroom will be saved.
Built-In TTL, Manual, and Multi Modes
The Q6 can be paired with Canon E-TTL II, Nikon i-TTL, Sony TTL, and Fujifilm TTL systems. This flexibility can be a real treasure for photographers who shoot events with different gear brands. Also, its manual mode allows for power adjustments in 0.1-stop increments around 1/512 to full power. Moreover, it features Multi (strobe), front/rear curtain sync, S1/S2 optical slave modes, burst shooting, and a time-lapse function that can be set anywhere from 0.01 seconds to 30 seconds. To summarize, it has almost everything you might need.
Last thing I wanna add to your information before you go for purchasing. The Neewer Q6 has a standard Bowens mount, which means all your favorite softboxes, beauty dishes, and reflectors can easily fit. It weighs around 6.6 lbs without the handle. I’d expect it to be lighter in weight. But, as far as you’re working with monolights then it’s okay.
Pricing and Availability
You can pre-order the Neewer Q6 600Ws Outdoor Studio Flash for $499.99. It is lower than its usual price of $699.99. Neewer says that shipping will start on May 18, 2025.
For what it costs (currently on preorder, down from $699.99), I think it isn’t a big compromise. Some known brands like Godox and Profoto, have a good name in supplying flashes. But, now maybe Neewer can be in the same competition if it produces more masterpieces like Q6. To mention again, that app control could be a remarkable if it meets expectations.
