
Suppose you’re at your friend’s wedding. You look pretty as a bridesmaid. Your friend insists you to capture the beautiful memories. But, deep down you know your phone camera isn’t great. Unluckily, your photographer friend gets stuck and can’t make it to the wedding (friends do that sometimes lol). I guess I just narrated my story. Well, things got advanced unexpectedly with Social Agent’s app.
This new location-based gig app connects you with professional photographers and videographers on demand. Just like you book Uber, you can book a photographer to arrive at your location in 30 minutes or maybe less. Never in my wild dreams have I imagined that hiring a photographer in just 30 mins would ever be possible.
How it Works for You
Behind the invention of Social Agent is Lisa Jammal, along with support from Brooke Levy and Jeff Tobler. She is also the founder of the Social Intelligence Agency. She created this app to resolve the issue of hiring photographer at 11th hour.
Social Agent’s app seems so easy to operate, like Uber. Just open the app, explore photographers, videographers, and content creators, and book any one of them right away. It depends upon you whether you want to book a photo or video session for either 30 minutes ($65) or 60 minutes ($120). Each package gives you 10 to 15 photos or 5 to 10 short videos. That can serve as good content for Instagram Reels, TikToks, or whatever Gen Z likes.
Within 30 minutes after session, you receive the raw, unedited images. According to the company, editing starts at $30 and requires time. They charge a small service fee of $5 at checkout.
You may have heard false excuses from your friends while paying, either it’s paying for food or the photographer. I guess Social Agent knows that. That’s why they included a “share payment” option that makes it easy for you and your friends to divide the bill. In this case, nobody would make excuse of forgetting wallet at home.
Moreover, you can plan photo shoots in advance or upload your own images for quick edits while you’re out and about.
How It Works for the Creators
Identification verification and some training courses are mandatory for “agents” (photographers and videographers) to complete the application process. After coming on board, they can open the app, tap a big green “start” button to begin their gigs, and finish a session by pressing a red one.
World has evolved so fast and right now everything runs digitally. Already a standard photo session can cost you from $100 to over $1,000. While this app can give 10 to 15 good images for just $65. I guess it’s more than enough to post on your Instagram story or even LinkedIn profile.
I don’t think Social Agent is harming full-time photographers. Many of you might be thinking it as a unfair competition. So, the criticism always happens when something new comes in the market. Every new change takes time to be accepted.
Social Agent clarifies that this platform is meant for side jobs, not full-time careers. As a photographer, I value the concept of cashing the time and this seems ideal to me. You can choose assignments, finish “missions,” and get paid. Once you get in the run of cashing your skills, there’s no going back. Even if you’re a professional full-time photographer, you can opt this as a side gig.
Availability
Company says, it will be launched by this June, starting from Los Angeles. Then they might expand to cities like New York, Miami, Chicago, Dallas, and or maybe beyond based on their plans.
Personally, I enjoy being a content creator. But sometimes I’ve got no time, right gear, or energy to do a photo shoot. In such cases, I find Social Agent app quite helpful. The costs might disappoint you a bit, but it doesn’t makes a difference when you get supreme quality. Quality is always prior than quantity.
I am a bit curious about how professional photographers will react eventually. Hoping it doesn’t become another app that drains the people it relies on.
