Our Favourite Sony Cameras with APS-C Sensor

Sony has some exciting cameras in the mirrorless segment. The company has launched models such as the a1, the a9, or the a7R IV, all of which excel in various ways. Just like their full frame offerings, Sony has also introduced exceptional APS-C cameras, many of which are in a league of their own. If you have been thinking of purchasing a new camera, then here are some devices that will certainly interest you.

Sony a6000

The Sony a6000 is an APS-C camera with a 24MP CMOS sensor, Bionz X processor, and 179 AF points. It also has 11 burst rates, a 921,600-dot LCD, and a 1.44m-dot EVF. Sony offers excellent autofocus, which is intelligent and pretty accurate. The image quality is excellent, and the high ISO results are pretty clean, too. The RAW files are versatile and can hold up against full-frame cameras. You can also pull details from the highlights. As we said in our review, “Those megapixels and the design of the sensor give you tons of dynamic range and loads of color latitude. So you won’t ever have a problem with those.”

Sony a6100

The Sony a6100 is another APS-C camera that depicts the best of the best. It features a 24MP sensor, works with E-mount lenses, and has 425 AF points. It also includes a 1.44M-dot EVF, 4K video recording, and ISO up to 51,200. The a6100 has a really quick and accurate autofocus, the burst mode is really great, and it is very small and lightweight. The RAW files are quite good, and you can recover shadows and highlights pretty well. The overall image quality is also great, and the colors are produced well. There is also plenty of sharpness. As we said in our review, “The image above was shot at ISO 6400, and it is entirely usable. You will find that once you hit ISO 1600, more noise is introduced into shadow areas as you start to recover your images during post.” All of this at an exceptional price.

Sony A6400

The A6400 offers 425 AF points, a 24MP sensor, and Real-time Eye AF. The APS-C camera has an 11fps burst rate, can record 4K videos at 30fps, and supports S-Log2, S-Log3, and HLG. The device also has an ISO of up to 102,800, a 2,359,296-dot EVF, and weighs 403g. It lacks image stabilisation, but it makes up for it in autofocus and image quality. The camera is perfect for sports and wildlife photographers, as it offers AI machine learning for real-time autofocus and tracking. In fact, the camera’s performance comes close to the a9. “Images are sharp, with lifelike colors that are rich and vibrant,” we said in our review. “For the audience that they’re catering to, the JPEGs at least will be very worthwhile.” It is a reliable camera, and it won’t disappoint.
