Panasonic Unveils Compact 4K 60p Camcorders for Creators and Professionals

Panasonic has unveiled a new lineup of 4K 60p camcorders aimed at filmmakers, videographers, and live-streaming professionals. The four models – AG-CX20, AG-CX18, HC-X1600 ($1,699.99), and HC-X1200 ($1,299.99) – combine advanced features with a lightweight, portable design that’s perfect for on-the-go shoots.

Advanced Lenses and Stabilization

All four new models feature a powerful 25–600mm zoom lens (35mm equivalent) with 24x optical zoom. Panasonic’s 4-Drive Lens System keeps the zoom smooth and responsive. Dual manual focus rings give creators greater control.

To help keep your footage steady, the four camcorders include a five-axis stabilisation system. And it’s a hybrid system, using both optical and electronic tech. This setup reduces camera shake, even during tricky handheld shots or while filming at extreme angles.

Built-in Streaming Features

For creators focused on live streaming, the high-end AG-CX20 shines. It supports full-HD streaming via the SRT protocol and is NDI® HX2 compatible for low-latency workflows—no extra hardware needed. Both the CX20 and CX18 allow direct streaming to platforms like YouTube with RTMP support, making it easy to connect with your audience.

But for those who aren’t interested in streaming, don’t think these cameras aren’t for you. All four cameras support 4K 60p 10-bit recording and offer 4:2:2 output via HDMI for use with external recorders. So, you’ll be able to connect them to your Atomos Ninja ($599) or other devices for ProRes and other formats.

Compact and Capable: HC-X1600 and HC-X1200

The AG-CX20 and CX18 are tailored for live-streaming and high-end workflows. The HC-X1600 and HC-X1200, though, focus on delivering pro quality in a more streamlined package. These models maintain the same core features. They have 4K 60p recording, dual SD card slots, and five-axis stabilisation. But, they come without the advanced IP streaming options of their CX counterparts.

These cameras are ideal for smaller production teams or creators who don’t need advanced streaming capabilities. You’ll still get reliable performance for corporate videos, events, and on-location shoots. With the HC-X1600 and HC-X1200, Panasonic offers more affordable options without compromising on essential tools.

Panasonic has packed these camcorders with features designed to make life easier for creators in the field. Highlights include:

  • A sharp OLED viewfinder with a comfortable eyecup.
  • A responsive 3.5-inch touchscreen display.
  • Dual SD card slots for simultaneous or backup recording.
  • Faster low-speed zoom for smoother cinematic shots.
  • Reliable WiFi and Ethernet connectivity.

The AG-CX20 and CX18 also include a detachable handle unit with dual XLR inputs and a built-in LED light for filming in low-light conditions.

Despite their pro-level features, these camcorders are compact and easy to carry. A redesigned cooling system keeps them reliable during long shoots. The durable battery ensures you can keep filming without interruptions.

Price and Availability

Pricing and availability have not yet been officially announced. However, the Panasonic HC-X1200 and HC-X1600 are available to pre-order now for $1,299.95 and $1,699.99, respectively.
