Sigma fp L and EVF-11 Viewfinder Announcement on March 23rd

March 20, 2021

Sigma are set to announce the new fp L mirrorless camera and the EVF-II electronic viewfinder on March 23rd, at least according to the usually spot-on Nokishita rumor-site.

The successor to the original Sigma fp model has been revealed in a series of official-looking product images ahead of the next Sigma Stage presentation that will take place virtually next week.

It’s unclear yet where the new fp L camera will sit in the range, or indeed what the mysterious “L” addition to the product name might actually stand for.

The front of the new camera looks identical to the original model, just with the “L” newly inscribed below the “fp”, so it may be that this new version will only feature internal changes, possibly housing a different sensor with either fewer or more likely more megapixels.

The EV-11 is perhaps more interesting, at this point in time anyway.

It’s very cleverly designed to directly attach to the side of the fp body via its HDMI port, USB-C port and one of its 1/4″ screw threads, turning the former viewfinder-less camera design into a kind of mini-rangefinder.

It will be supplied in its own smartly designed carry case complete with interchangeable eye-cup.

Looking at the product images, it may even feature a full-sized HDMI port and an articulating design that will allow it to used at waist level, although those two features are harder to determine for sure from the limited information on offer so far.

The EV-11 will presumably be compatible with both the original fp and the new fp L, addressing one of the key complaints about the fp’s overall design.

Nokishita reports (translated) that “It seems that SIGMA fp L will be announced at “SIGMA STAGE Online” scheduled around 21:00 on March 23rd. In addition to the previous accessory, the AC adapter “UAC-21” and the USB cable (Type-C on both ends) “SUC-41” should be announced. Is the suggested retail price of EVF-11 75,000 yen + tax?
