It is not only small and inconspicuous, but also makes it easy to shoot when you want to go completely into automatic mode. If you are someone who relies on your phone often, then here are a few tips that can make your images stand out. After all, the best camera you have with you sometimes is actually a smartphone.
Try Shooting RAW
Download the free Lightroom app, then tap on the built-in camera. Switch to a professional mode and capture RAW images. This way, you can leave behind the extra sharpening your phone does or the high saturation, which can be the case when shooting JPEGs.
Edit on a Bigger Screen
One thing smartphone photographers often do is try to edit the images on the phone itself. While you may think this is a good exercise, in hindsight, it is not. Your phone screen has a different temperature than your laptop’s screen, so the colors will always be off. In addition, if you give some time to yourself, you can edit more.
Chase Hard Light
A tiny sensor can capture dramatic light really well. So, when you are making images, expose for the highlights. You embrace the silhouettes and look for patterns that result from the strong shadows. Shooting straight at the sun can also give you great flare, adding character to your photographs.

Slip the phone through the fences or keyholes, and you can find images that even a DSLR can’t shoot.
DIY Filters
We have suggested this for camera lenses and will again for smartphones. DIY filters can help get distinct images. For example, a scrap of red gel can darken skies when you convert to B&W. So, keep trying and exploring, and your images will get better.
Slow Down
Remember, the joy of making an image is in slowing down. Not every fleeting scene is worth the shot. It’s better to take an extra moment and get the best composition. The change of light, for instance, or a figure in the frame can add to the picture. At the same time, look for humor, irony, colors, or juxtapositions to make your shot better.
