Color theory lessons every photographer should know


At some point in your photography journey, you’ll notice how important color is in delivering the message, emotion or story behind your images. As such, getting the colors right is an important step in post-processing your photos, but can also be a tedious part of the workflow. However, knowing about color theory and how to put it to work can greatly help in manipulating colors to tell a story.

In the video above, travel photographer Sean Dalton does a deep dive into color theory for photographers, covering topics such as the psychology of color, foundations of color, and color harmony. He also gives crucial color editing tips for Lightroom, with concepts that can be applied using other image editing software as well.

Dalton himself admits that he most likely spends the most time on color when editing his photos. So, try to not get frustrated when you also end up taking some time to tweak the colors to your liking, and even mastering the process involved.
