Is Roll Cam AI the Future of Videography? The Robotic Cameraman Launching soon on Kickstarter

Filming on your own is a massive challenge. It can be chaotic while dealing with tripods, trying to find the perfect angles, and hoping auto-focus alligns with your patience. Recently, there comes the Roll Cam AI which claims to be the “world’s first robotic AI cameraman” and is launching soon on Kickstarter. It seems to combine features of an advanced gimbal and a personal robot assistant. The reason it calls cameraman itself is that it automatically follows you while filming or whoever you’re filming. I mean you don’t need any assistant for handling camera.

This sounds like a great deal for solo content creators like you. But, is it worth the hype?

How It Moves And Tracks You?

Nowadays, TikTok, YouTube, and Instagram are leading ahead with reels. So, solo creators might be the most benefited ones with this AI camera. Not just that, but, it can be used for real state tours or travel vlogs as well. You just have to switch it on and it will automatically follow you.

Roll Cam says it’s small, affordable, and easy to use. There’s no need of coding or complex setup. Simply place your phone, DSLR, or mirrorless camera on it, turn it on, and you’re ready to go.

To cope with different surfaces like hills, Roll Cam AI introduces strong (yet ultra-silent) motors. Walk behind, in front, or alongside it, it follows your every move. It even has an option of custom movement pattern if you’d like it to follow a certain route consistently. According to Roll Cam, it’s meant to deliver thrilling video features like 360° views, panoramic shots, slider-style movements, and time-lapses.

Another key feature is its rubber spike tires. The result of smooth videos is possible with it as it tends to cushion bumps. No need of any advanced stabilizers. Though, DaVinci Resolve’s free stabilizer can be used if you expect ultra-smooth footage.

Setting it up is quite easy too. You’ve to bring your own gear as Roll Cam AI doesn’t come with a tripod or camera. This tool leverages its flexibility by adjusting to various tripod sizes and even works with a gimbal for added stability.

The company says, it can work well with GoPros, smartphones, mirrorless cameras, and DSLRs. Hence, transforming your usual setup into a portable, robotic filming.

Pricing and Stretch Goals

Roll Cam AI says they’re planning on including voice command features if the Kickstarter goes well. I never thought AI would be able to majestically respond to your commands as well. A talk about integrating multiple features is going on that includes wireless live view, remote control for camera settings (think ISO, aperture, and more), and even multi-camera triggering for more complex setups. Seriously, now I’m wondering if all of these features combine, how impressive it would be!

Right now, you can get “VIP Backer” status for just $1. Roll Cam AI says that VIPs will receive a 65% discount when the Kickstarter launches. Ultimately, reducing the final price to around $199 if all goes well.

On a lighter note, I feel like Roll Cam AI is one of those devices that could revolutionize solo content creation—or it could just be another overhyped Kickstarter novelty.

Let’s see how it works before getting too adrenalized!
