If you’re planning to add a Sigma lens to your kit, you may want to act quickly. A significant Sigma price increase is coming on June 2, 2025, driven by newly imposed U.S. tariffs on imported goods. Sigma Corporation of America confirmed the news in a letter to customers, citing rising operational costs due to the tariffs.
President of Sigma America, Mark Amir-Hamzeh, stated:
“Due to the recent implementation of government-imposed tariffs, our costs at Sigma America have increased substantially. We have made every effort to absorb these added expenses, but the sustained impact of the tariffs now necessitates a price increase to ensure we can continue delivering the quality and service you expect.”
Amir-Hamzeh further states that the current prices will stay unchanged for all orders placed and fulfilled by May 31, 2025. “New pricing will take effect on June 2, 2025, and will apply to all new orders and any unfulfilled items.”
“We understand this is difficult news to hear, and please know this decision was not made lightly. We have always prided ourselves on delivering unmatched value to our customers, and we are doing everything we can to continue to do that while providing the same service and product excellence.”
The Sigma price increase comes in the wake of tariff announcements made by President Donald Trump, which target imports from major manufacturing countries for the photo and tech industries. These include a 24% tariff on goods from Japan, 34% on those from China, and 46% from Vietnam—three nations where most camera gear, including Sigma lenses, is produced.
While the intent of the tariffs is to encourage U.S.-based manufacturing, most major camera brands, including Canon, Sony, Nikon, and Fujifilm, do not operate production facilities in the United States. Setting up such operations would be costly and time-consuming, meaning higher prices are the more immediate result.
The Sigma price increase is part of a broader trend affecting the photography industry. Many experts recommend buying gear now, before stocks run low and prices rise further.
