Ultra Dynamic Range
Dynamic range helps photographers to see the details in highlights and shadows. However, some photographers use various images of different exposures of one scene to help them capture more details, which can be improvised later. Leica states that the ultra dynamic range is going to be helpful to those who can’t create a composite due to the lack of a tripod. What this feature will achieve is it will “automatically optimize exposure of all image areas” to give us a natural-looking and properly lit photograph. This feature will be available in both RAW/DNG + JPEG and is said to work for any available resolution.
Super Resolution
The Super Resolution feature is supposed to help Leica users get detailed images. It is also said to help those who may want to get closer to capture some particular detail but lack the equipment to do so. One could say it can work as a composite set of images. For instance, if you have a 20MP sensor camera, then you get an 80MP resolution image thanks to this. One will also have the option to select the details and get a final RAW/DNG+JPEG result.
Live Photo
This feature sounds like the one seen on Apple iPhone. Leica states that if you are hypothetically “photographing a laughing child,” then the camera will create “a short sequence” of that image before and after the release of the shutter. This movement sequence will work as “living memories,” and one can easily choose between the best moments. The resolution of the image will be 10MP.
Night Mode
The Night Mode is another feature that appears similar to iPhones and Android devices is that it will allow Leica users to photograph in really low light without the use of a flash or a tripod. An example that the company gives is allowing one to photograph their friend at an exhibition. The images shot with Night Mode will be 20MP in resolution and one can make RAW/DNG+JPEG files, too.
Individual Look
This feature will help one to “automatically” and allow you to capture images of your preset preference. For instance, if you are shooting on the streets, the feature will give Leica users optimized exposure and colors that work best for their style. All of this without having to mechanically play with white balance or exposure. One can say it may work like the filter modes on phones or Monochrome mode in many cameras, but it can be tweaked in advance to your aesthetics.
Overall, these changes involve adding newer features rather than physically altering or innovating the camera. Some people are keen on having all these features, as they are supposed to give them better resolution than an iPhone. Once we get a more official statement from the company, we may know better.
