WhiteWall’s SuperResolution AI Tool Improves Low-Resolution Photos for Free

I find it difficult to enlarge a pile of old phone photos I adore without them looking like a mess of pixels. Recently, WhiteWall has launched the solution. The German lab recently released SuperResolution. If you don’t know about it, well, it is a free AI feature designed to focus entirely on how you can enhance low-resolution photos to produce large, high-quality prints. Notably, the feature comes included at no additional cost.

As the name suggests, “SuperResolution” is all about enhancing image resolution. Adobe uses the same term for a similar tool, which could make things a little confusing if you’ve been dabbling in image editing already. If you’re a casual user looking to print personal photos, this might be a useful development.

How WhiteWall SuperResolution Works?

Essentially, WhiteWall SuperResolution seems to employ AI to enlarge and hone your photos. Unlike basic upscaling, the process involves more than enlarging existing pixels.

The technology appears to fill gaps in missing detail smartly, maintaining delicate patterns such as hair, eyes, and textures that would otherwise go fuzzy when made larger. It’s possible to enhance your image resolution up to six times larger without losing quality.

It’s particularly handy for:

  • Photos captured by older smartphones
  • Heavily cropped photos, you still want to have big ones
  • Low-res files that you used to think were “too small to matter”

Personally, what I find interesting is that this feature seems seamlessly integrated into the standard upload process. When you upload a file to WhiteWall, SuperResolution takes care of analyzing it and then reveals the new print sizes that are possible for you. No overwhelming settings, no second upload.

But Wait, there’s More

There are a few more features you can combine SuperResolution with. You can use it alongside their ultraHD sharpening tool for an even sharper, more detailed end product.

I can see that WhiteWall has continued to build on its strengths. In addition to SuperResolution, they introduced Image Optimization, a feature that adjusts your brightness, contrast, saturation, and shadow detail. It all gets done automatically to get your prints looking their absolute best.

I get really tired of how labs usually tack on a fee for every small add-on. But, at least this feature doesn’t cost anything extra. It kind of feels like the go-to place for printing everything — old travel shots, artsy stuff, or even that pixelated photo of your cat looking majestic. You can test the SuperResolution here.
