From the title alone, most of you probably have an idea how this story goes. But for those who have just discovered Leica and the premium status (cough price tag cough) that it comes with, it could be interesting to see if there are any Leicas that won’t break the bank. Today’s featured video should give an idea about what that could involve.
UK film photographer Jack of Graindead took on the challenge of buying the cheapest Leica camera he could find online. Based on what he shared in the video above, what an adventure it turned out to be. In a nutshell, he found himself a screw mount 1934 Leica III body priced at £99.99 (around $135) and a Leitz Elmar 9cm priced at £40 (roughly $54).
Of course, at these prices, the Leica body and lens aren’t in tip-top shape, and it’s easy to see they’ve seen better days. But, was Jack still able to get the setup to its best working condition? And if he did, what results did he get? Well, you’d have to watch the entire video to find out!
