DJI Cancels the Phantom Line — Here’s What It Means for You


Recently, DJI has announced the end of Phantom 4 Pro and Phantom 4 Advanced drones. We don’t know the reason yet but it could be a reasonable decision, considering the ever-growing and changing market. Sadly, the ending of DJI Phantom 4 product support means that product inquiries, technical assistance, repairs, or maintenance services will no longer be accessible from DJI after June 1, 2025.

Probably with the growing advanced technologies, DJI might want to concentrate more on that side as a part of their strategy. Maybe, that’s why DJI Phantom 4 ends their support for previous products. These all are just random guesses. Though, it might be heartbreaking to you, but everyone has a right to innovation in order to progress.

Phantom 4 Pro and Advanced: What Was so Special?

Don’t forget how revolutionary these drones were. The Phantom 4 Pro which was released in 2016, made an entrance with its impressive 20MP 1-inch CMOS sensor, delivering DSLR-quality images right from the air. It also featured a mechanical shutter, which eliminated rolling shutter issues, along with five-direction obstacle sensing and the ability to shoot 4K video at 60fps. In the vast skies where dreams take flight, the Phantom 4 Pro surely gave us wonderful sights, even as DJI Phantom 4 ends production.

Later in 2017, the Phantom 4 Advanced was launched. Being more cost-effective, its launch coincided with when DJI Phantom 4 ends its competitive run. Along with a compact design, it retained many features of the Pro model. Users seemed satisfied with this model due to its high-quality performance. It was lighter and more portable which provided results without all the extra frills. DJI maintained its name with these two drones.

The doors aren’t closed completely. If you already have Phantom 4 Pro or Advanced, you will still be able to take to the skies. Drone won’t stop working. But, in case of any technical issue, DJI won’t be offering support. So, you might need to handle it a bit more carefully if you want it to linger longer.

Final Thoughts

Personally, I think it is wise to plan for the future. Things can break, batteries can fail, and sometimes there are firmware glitches. Without DJI’s support, you might be taking a bit of a risk with your Phantom 4 Pro or Advanced. DJI has released so many new drones after 2017 that are worth considering like the Air 3S or Mavic 3 Pro.

“If you are still using any of the above products, we sincerely recommend that you upgrade to an alternative product of a new model so that you can enjoy our more recent, improved technologies, and we can then continue to provide you with efficient customer service,” DJI says.

I know for many of you, Phantom series has been remarkable in aerial videography. There aren’t any signs that DJI would bring back the Phantom line. DJI says:

“As of the date of service suspension, we will no longer provide you with services for these products involving product inquiries, technical support, and product maintenance.”

For now, DJI seems to be more focused on foldable designs and more compact alternatives. So, this might be the last chapter of the Phantom 4 series unless there’s a change in market demand.

We really don’t know what the future holds. Maybe one day randomly DJI announces a Phantom 5 that might take it to another level!
